About gstindia.com

An independent guide to GST for small businesses in India. It is free to use.

What the site is for

It helps people who run a small business, or who file GST for one, with everyday GST work. It has four free tools: a GST calculator, a late fee and interest calculator, a GSTIN checker (it checks a GST number for typing mistakes, but can’t tell you if the business is registered) and a calendar of due dates.

We check every rate, fee, due date and State code in the tools against official sources.

The gstindia.com team builds the tools and checks every rate, fee and date in them against the official sources.

What it isn’t

gstindia.com is not the official GST portal. It is not part of the Government of India, GSTN (the Goods and Services Tax Network, which runs the GST portal) or CBIC (the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs). None of them runs or approves this site.

How our pages are made

We write every page in our own words, from official sources only: the GST law and notifications on CBIC’s tax information site, and the advisories and manuals on the GST portal. A notification is an official order that sets a GST rule. An advisory is an official update on gst.gov.in.

Every rate, date and fee on the site comes with the official source we checked it against, and the date we checked it. You’ll find them under each tool’s title, in a line that starts “Checked against”.

Read how we check our pages, and how to tell us about a mistake.

Free to use

The tools are free. You don’t need an account, and you never sign up. There are no adverts on the site and nothing to buy. If that changes, this page will say so first.

What it can’t do

This site can’t file returns, see your GST account or change anything on the GST portal. To file a return or pay tax, go to gst.gov.in.

It also can’t tell you what to do in your own business. For a decision such as whether to register, or which rate applies to what you sell, a qualified tax professional can help.
