How we check our pages

Our editorial policy: how we write and check every page on gstindia.com, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Last updated

Where our facts come from

We use official government sources only, mainly:

  • the GST law, notifications and circulars on CBIC’s tax information site, taxinformation.cbic.gov.in
  • the advisories on the GST portal, gst.gov.in, and the portal’s own manuals on tutorial.gst.gov.in
  • the GST Council’s site, gstcouncil.gov.in, and CBIC’s older GST site, cbic-gst.gov.in

A notification is an official order that sets a GST rule, such as a rate or a late fee. An advisory is an official update on the GST portal. We don’t take rates, dates or rules from other websites, forums or social media.

How every figure is checked

We check every rate, date and fee on the site against the official source it comes from: the GST law itself (its Acts and Rules) or a CBIC notification, on taxinformation.cbic.gov.in, or a GST portal advisory on gst.gov.in. Other facts, such as how a rule works or what a portal screen asks for, are checked against the GST law and the portal’s own manuals.

Each tool has a line under its title that starts “Checked against”. It names the official sources we checked the page against, with links, and the date we checked them. That date is the day we opened those sources and checked the page against them. It is not the same as a page’s Last updated date, which is the day we last changed its words. If you have heard of a change since the checked date, check the source before you rely on the page.

Who checks the pages

The gstindia.com team writes and checks every page. No outside expert or tax professional reviews the pages, and we don’t claim that one does. That is why each page names the official sources it was checked against: you can open them and check for yourself.

When a rule changes

GST rates, dates and fees change, sometimes at short notice. When CBIC or the GST portal changes one, we update every page that uses it, check those pages against the new notification or advisory, and change the date in their “Checked against” line.

How we check the tools

Each tool keeps its rates and rules in one list, and every entry names the official source it comes from. Before a tool goes live, we test it against examples worked out by hand. Each tool page shows what its figures were checked against, and when.

Our own words

Every page is written for this site. We don’t copy or rewrite other websites’ articles. When we quote an official notification, we put the words in quotation marks and name the notification.

Drafts are written with help from an AI tool. Every rate, date and fee is then checked against its official source before a page is published.

Report a mistake

If you think something on a page is wrong, email contact@gstindia.com and tell us:

  • the page’s address (its link)
  • what you think is wrong
  • the official source, if you have one, such as a CBIC notification or a GST portal advisory

What we do then:

  1. We check what you sent against the official source.
  2. If we got it wrong, we fix the page and update the date in its “Checked against” line. We also add a dated note at the end of the page, under “Corrections”. It starts “Corrected on” and the date, then says what changed.
  3. We make the fix within 2 working days of your report.
