In short

Accounts
None. You never sign in.
Forms
None yet. Nothing asks for your name, phone number or email.
Cookies
None from us. Cookies are small files a website saves on your phone or computer. Cloudflare, which delivers the site, sets its own cookies only if it asks you to pass a security check (see below).
Tracking and adverts
None. The pages have no tracking scripts and no adverts.
Other companies
Oracle Cloud, Cloudflare and Apple. We rent our server from Oracle Cloud, and Cloudflare passes the pages from it to you. Emails you send us reach our mailbox at Apple’s iCloud Mail (see below). The pages load nothing from other companies, such as fonts, adverts or trackers.
Emails you send us
Used only to answer you. Never sold, and never used for marketing (see “If you email us”).
Which pages you open
Recorded by Cloudflare, not by us. Cloudflare keeps its own records of the pages and files people open. Its dashboard shows us totals, and some details of single visits, such as the IP address (the number that identifies an internet connection), the page asked for and the browser used (see below). Our server’s technical log of its own work can also include an IP address, and deletes it after 30 days.

The server’s technical log

The web server that runs this site doesn’t keep a record of the pages people visit. It does keep a technical log of its own work, for example about keeping the secure connection (the padlock) working, or about a connection that failed. A few of these entries include the IP address involved (the number that identifies an internet connection). Cloudflare keeps its own records (see “Where the site is hosted” below).

We use this log only to keep the site working and safe. We don’t use it to find out who you are, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for advertising. The log keeps its entries for 30 days, then deletes them automatically.

Nothing is sent to another site, such as gst.gov.in, until you tap a link to it. Then that site’s own privacy policy applies.

The tools

The calculators and the GSTIN checker work on your own phone or computer. What you type into them, such as an amount or a GSTIN, isn’t sent to us or anyone else, and isn’t saved.

If you email us

When you email contact@gstindia.com, your email goes to our mailbox at Apple’s iCloud Mail, which runs the email for gstindia.com. Our replies come from the same address.

We use your email address and what you write only to answer you. We never sell them, and never use them for marketing. They stay in our mailbox only as long as we need them to answer you. To have them deleted sooner, email us and say so.

Where the site is hosted

The site runs on a server we rent from Oracle Cloud, in its data centre in Mumbai, India.

Cloudflare

Another company, Cloudflare, delivers gstindia.com to you. Your browser connects to Cloudflare’s network, which looks after the secure connection (the padlock) and passes each request on to our server.

To do that, Cloudflare sees your IP address and the address of each page or file you open, and it keeps its own records of these visits. In Cloudflare’s dashboard we see totals, such as how many times each page was opened, how much data was sent and which countries the visits came from. We can also see some details of single visits: the IP address, the page or file asked for, the time, and the browser and type of device used. For example, the dashboard lists the IP addresses that sent the most requests. Cloudflare’s firewall protects the site from attacks, and shows us the same details for a visit it blocks or checks as a possible attack. We use what we see there only to run the site and keep it safe, not to find out who you are.

Cloudflare doesn’t change our pages or add anything to them, and it doesn’t collect error reports from your browser. Sometimes Cloudflare isn’t sure a visit is safe, for example when the internet connection it comes from has been used for attacks. Then it may ask you to pass a short security check before it shows you the page. The check uses Cloudflare’s own cookies. One of them, cf_clearance, remembers that you passed. Cloudflare explains each of its cookies in its list of Cloudflare cookies.

If we start using any other company’s service for the site, we will name it on this page first.

Before anything changes

Later, the site will have a contact form, and it may have a box where you can ask for paid help with a GST task. They would ask for details such as your name, email address or phone number. Before either goes live, we will update this page to say what they collect, why, who sees it and how long we keep it.

Your data and the law

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 sets rules for how personal data is handled, and gives people rights over data about them. Today, the personal data we may hold about you is an IP address in our server’s technical log, for up to 30 days, and, if you email us, your emails in our mailbox (see “If you email us”). Cloudflare, which delivers the site, keeps its own records of the visits it passes on, with their IP addresses, and we can see some of them (see “Where the site is hosted”).

If you have a question about information we hold about you, email contact@gstindia.com.
